How to use Internet marketing research tools to find the keywords that will take YOUR business to new heights
In a recent blog post, I wrote about our new Internet Entrepreneur Club forum and all the lively discussions that are going on there EVERY day.
Recently, there have been a LOT of discussions about finding good keywords using Internet marketing research tools like Wordtracker. In fact, we had to create a whole new category devoted just to keyword research!
It's not too surprising, though. Keyword research is fundamental to almost ALL aspects of building a wildly profitable online business: from finding viable niche markets, to increasing traffic, to creating new products.
Here's a simple 5-step process for finding keywords that are not only HOT, but easy to rank under:
- Build a list of keywords you think people are
using to search for products in your area of interest.
Think like a customer. What words would you use to search for something
you're interested in? Then generate a list of 100 to 200 keywords.
- Refine your keyword research in Wordtracker.
Take your keyword list into Wordtracker to get related keywords
and find out exactly how many people are searching for them.
- Check out the competition. Take your narrowed
list to the search engines and take a look at the sites that rank
under those keywords. Do they look professional? Are they even selling
competing products? If they are, can you improve on site design
or salescopy?
- Test your keywords using pay-per-click ads. This
is a fast and easy trick to test the keywords remaining on your
list to see just how much traffic they'll bring you. Plus, it's
a great way to see which keywords will convert the best!
- Spread your keywords throughout your website copy, opt-ins, and distributed content. Yup, these need to go everywhere! The key hotspots? In your title, subhead, first and last paragraphs, and throughout your body copy.
Finding the right keywords to build your Internet business can be challenging, but it's also a lot of FUN!
